Herein, norbornyl (NB), a bulky annular nonconjugated spacer, is melded into π systems to construct two groups of ladder-type room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) luminogens. The effect of the NB on π-π interactions, packing modes and RTP performance is explored systematically.
