Siderophores play a vital role in the viability of fungi and are essential for the virulence of many pathogenic fungal species. Despite their importance in fungal physiology and pathogenesis, the programming rule of siderophore assembly by fungal nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) remains unresolved.
