The hepatoprotective properties of silibinin, as well its therapeutic potential as an anticancer and chemo-preventive agent, have failed to progress towards clinical development and commercialization due to this material's unfavorable pharmacokinetics and physicochemical properties, low aqueous solubility, and chemical instability.
