Reproduction is closely related to energy metabolism: physical activity and adiposity (either insufficient weight or obesity) can affect female fertility. Irisin is a myo- and adipokine produced by skeletal muscles during exercise or shivering as well as in smaller amounts by subcutaneous visceral adipocytes [1]. Leptin is a neuroendocrine adipokine regulating satiety and energy expenditure.
