Dissolving a 1 : 1 mixture of K2[3]2 and K[3′] in thf leads to the formation of a single species by NMR, which contains the [3′]− fragment, and which is postulated (by analogy with [K(2.2.2-crypt)][3′]) to be of the form [K(thf)2][3′].
The chemical identity of [K(crypt)][2] and [K(crypt)][4] was confirmed by their independent synthesis from K2[2]2 or K[4] with 2.2.2-cryptand respectively. 1H and 13C{1H} spectra suggest that the respective carbonate and aminodicarboxylate functional groups remain intact.
Details of the X-ray crystal structures described in this paper are available from the CCDC, deposition numbers 2203556-2203559.
