In recent times, discovery efforts for novel antibiotics have mostly targeted carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative organisms. Two different combination approaches are pertinent: β-lactam-β-lactamase inhibitor (BL/BLI) or β-lactam-β-lactam enhancer (BL/BLE).
