The currently used plastics are non-biodegradable, and cause greenhouse gases (GHGs) emission as they are petroleum-based. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are biopolymers with excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility, which can be used to replace petroleum-based plastics.
