PHD1 is a member of the prolyl hydroxylase domain protein (PHD1-4) family, which plays a prominent role in the post-translational modification of its target proteins by hydroxylating proline residues. The best-characterized targets of PHD1 are hypoxia-inducible factor α (HIF-1α and HIF-2α), two master regulators of the hypoxia signaling pathway.
