Hyperthermophile bioelectrochemical systems are seldom investigated although their superior control of microbial consortium and thermodynamic advantages. Hyperthermophilic Thermotogales, for instance, are able to produce hydrogen and lactic acid from wastes better than mesophilic bacteria.
